Gowing with the "Flow", in the Middle Kingdom

I started working at Flow.Asia after moving to Beijing. I came across a group of Wordpress developers that needed custom designs for bigger clients then they were used to working with. Previous designs were in the form of Wordpress templates or “page builders”.

At Flow.Asia I had multiple design roles, from Graphic Design to Digital Design and more importantly this is when I made my pivot from mostly Print & Branding to Digital Design, mostly websites and landing pages. I became obsessed with the idea of users interacting with a product or platform that I had designed. Versus someone flipping through a magazine or a flyer that I designed.

Some of my favortie projects during my time there

There were many projects that I worked on during my time at Flow.asia, these are just some of the few that I really enjoyed. During my first few projects I worked with a Sr designer that helped me get more of a technical understanding of UI design and whom also acted as a project manager. When I was confident to work on projects myself, then I would take on the role as the lead designer, and I would manage my projects, while also keeping communication open with the dev team that would be working on these. Being able to work for a client like Volkswagen and Sennheiser were some of my favorite moments. Being an avid fan of F1 and other forms of racing, I have always been a huge fan of Volkswagen. Sennheiser have consistently been one of my fave audio brands, so being able to work with them was also a very humbling experience.

During the start of my time at Flow.asia, I began with what was familiar to me. Most of my work consisted of marketing collateral and digital graphics for banner ads. There was an opportinuty for me to work on a landing page for one of the clients. That was pretty much when I made the decision to focus mostly on digital design. From that point I worked on mostly landing pages and websites. Being involved in the process, sparked an interest in me to try and learn some web development. After try and failing to learn as much as possible online (The Great Firewall didn't help), I came across Wyncode a software development bootcamp here in Miami. After discussing this with my wife (who also went throught the program) we decided to move to Miami and try it out.
